Yesterday, we had a visit from the Australian author Jane Godwin. We heard that Jane has written over 30 books and uses various illustrators to express her stories. She chooses the illustrator according to what she imagines the story to look like.
For the Juniors, she showed them her picture books she has written and read aloud Bear Make Den and also Little Cat And The Big Red Bus. She explained that some illustrations do not need words, such as the image of Cat sleeping on the bus already tells the reader that she fell asleep.
For the Seniors and Middles, Jane spoke of some writing tips to improve their writing. Making sure the areas of structure, plot, characters, setting, language, theme and title are all given attention. No wonder it sometimes takes her 50 drafts before her final published book.
Many students had their books signed by Jane and the copies we have in the Library are now all personally signed by her. Please look for them when you are borrowing from the Library next time.
We have learnt many things from Jane Godwin and we thank her very much for visiting St Anne’s.
