St Anne's Science Week

Wednesday, February 15, 2023

As part of National Scienceweek all students spent an exciting day looking at different aspects of physical and chemical science.

Here's reflection from Jeremy-

How do you make butter? Have you ever thought about how they made butter in the olden days? Let me tell you your hands hurt badly from the shaking!

In the first experiment we made oobleck which is a type of slime. Oobleck is a solid and liquid. It is a solid when you are moving it fast and a liquid when you are moving it slow. We mixed cornstarch, water and food coloring to make our slime.

The next experiment required a lot of strength as we made butter from cream. The teacher poured cream into jars. Then we had to shake the jar until the cream became solid and turned into butter.

The final experiment was a big explosion. It had a coke bottle and mentos. Mr Kittlety put the mentos in the coke bottle. Then it exploded and we almost got wet!

By the end of the day my arms hurt, my fingers were stained and I almost got squirted with coke. But it was a fun day!
